Taxman

“Let Me Tell You How It Will Be
Here’s One For You Nineteen For Me
Cuz I’m The Taxman, Yeah, I’m The Taxman”

So begins the great lyrics by George Harrison, who was extremely agitated that more than half of his income was going to the British government. He was, of course, one of the Beatles, and it was to his dismay that his government was taking the lion’s share of the income his songwriting talents produced- with the government contributing not one iota to a given song’s production.  Well, save one. The song “Tax Man” was inspired by his frustration as to his tax liability.

“Should Five Percent Appear Too Small
Be Thankful I Don’t Take It All
Cuz I’m The Tax Man, Yeah I’m The Taxman”

This frustration continued to grow to the point that he moved out of England to escape the taxman. He certainly did not show any of the thankfulness requested by the English taxman. In fact, when he was near death he wanted to be sure that he did not die in England so as to totally avoid the remotest possibility of being subject to their massive estate tax. His problem did not stem from wanting to avoid taxes, he just felt that they were excessive to the point of discouraging him from even doing his work. What was the use? The taxman waiteth.

“If You Drive A Car, I’ll Tax The Street
If You Try To Sit, I’ll Tax Your Seat
If You Get Too Cold, I’ll Tax The Heat
If You Take A Walk I’ll Tax Your Feet!”

The taxes we pay are ridiculous to the point that no matter what you do, you pay taxes. Tax on gas, tax on your paycheck, numerous taxes for staying in a hotel, tax on utilities, tax on selling a used car that has already been taxed, taxed for eating out, and on and on it goes. Now they was to give us more taxes- and they wonder why the tea party exists.

“Don’t Ask Me What I Want It For
If You Don’t Want To Pay Some More
Cuz I’m The Taxman, Yeah I’m The Taxman

“Now My Advice For Those Who Die-Ah-Ah Mr. Wilson
Declare The Pennies On Your Eyes-Ah-Ah Mr. Heath
Cuz I’m The Taxman, Yeah I’m The Taxman
And You’re Working For No One But Me- Taxman!”

Mr. Wilson and Mr. Heath were political leaders in Harrison’s day. Mr. Wilson proposed a 95% super tax on the very wealthy and this infuriated George. He later added the lyric “If Your Overweight, I’ll Tax Your Fat”. What would he really think of Barack Obama if he were alive today? George Harrison died in Los Angeles on Nov. 29, 2001.

The Charges Against Congress

If we were to bring legal charges against this Congress, what would they be?  Let's make a list.

Charge #1
Identity Theft- You can’t use your child’s identity to incur new debt, yet this is what is happening with the current national debt our grandchildren will still be paying.

Charge #2
Bait and Switch- You can’t advertise something and then offer a lesser product. “Smart” guys like Geithner and Biden told us that the Stimulus held “shovel ready” jobs, unemployment would max at 8%, jobs would be created, and other wonderful promises, none of which came to be. Now they tell us “shovel ready” doesn’t exist and we instead get a load of debt and nothing to show for it. Want shovel ready? Try the finishing the U.S. 31 bypass!

Charge#3
Impersonating a Legal Representative- Congress passes bills they don’t read, authoritatively comment on bills they haven’t read (see Arizona’s immigration law), and try to convince you that, with pardons to Dr. Lester, health care legislation is a good deal.

Charge#4
Abuse of Fiduciary Duty- With health care, a broad brush is used to cherry pick desirable items from the legislation but like the forbidden fruit, one should not swallow. Cost overruns will bankrupt us, new benefits like extending health care to age 26 will still cost more, and no one can wants to admit to the myriad of bureaucracy created and the eventual rationing that has to ensue. Worse still, Congress exempted themselves, federal employees, unions, and now certain corporations. They drive us to the cliff and then jump off before we go over. The local Niles Haunted House will seem like a walk in the park compared to the landmines this legislation contains. Nancy Pelosi says, “We must pass it before we know what is in it!” Are they looking out for you? Over 80% of Americans were happy with healthcare before, so why must we all pay?

Charge#5
Power of Attorney Abuse- An elected Congress must act on our behalf. Instead, this Congress has continually passes legislation that few want. Isn’t that the reason we sought independence? They still want to do more if they are rehired Nov. 2nd: Cap and Trade, raising your taxes, reviving the Health Care Public Option, etc.

Charge#6
Bringing False Charges- They hurl false charges at the Chamber of Commerce and any opponent deemed a threat; heck, they even call you dangerous. Sure, all politicians lie, but weren’t these guys supposed to be different?

Let’s convict them on Nov. 2nd.

The World Knows

The world knows what Obama continues to deny.
Even the Chinese know that spending must come to an end. They took measures to cool down their hot economy and have fostered private enterprise to keep the economy humming along with happier workers.
Even the Cubans know that government spending is not the answer to economic prosperity. They recently announced that they are laying off one half million workers to trim the fat. People will actually have to worry about getting a job and keeping it without the security of a Communist government backing it up. Private enterprise is taking root and would this not be a great time to open the door to Cuba to let their form of government die due to prosperity. Imagine the value of those 1950s cars that still dominate Cuban roads on Ebay motors in America. Still Obama remains silent as he did with Iran-letting precious opportunities for spreading freedom slip through his fingers. What a waste.
Even the Greeks know that they can’t promise unions everything forever. The government is curbing retirement benefits, extending time to work until retirement and reducing the government work force. Riots have ensued but Greece must do this to survive. Are you watching Barack?
Even Castro knows that the Communist experiment has not gone well. He admitted himself in a candid interview. Yet Barack still believes the best is yet to come with the stimulus and yet another rescue plan for America. He is like McGyver trying like heck to make it work but Obama’s plans don’t work and never will.
Even the Democrats know that Obama is not a winning hand this fall. They are running from him like rats from a sinking ship. If he is mentioned he is mentioned as an object to be disagreed with and a tool to show that a given candidate is independent.
Even the Iraqis know that they cannot trust Obama as some are so desperate they are turning to Al Qaeda for leadership. Even when given a situation that any fool could caretake to success as Bush left Iraq for Obama, Obama still finds a way to screw it up and possible snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Even Illinois knows that things are not right as they are poised to elect a Republican governor and very possibly a Republican to take Obama’s old seat. Don’t worry Barack, Al Gore knows just how you feel as he lost Tennessee to Bush in 2000 to lose the election.
Even world leaders know that it is time to curb spending and they tell Obama that every chance they get at summit meetings. How can a President who supposedly “gets it” be so averse to getting it? I’ve not seen anything like this since…never.
The question is, when will Obama know?

Pelosi's Halloween Fun

I submit that this Halloween should be dedicated to none other than Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, Democrat extraordinaire. Unlike no other Halloween, the Halloween of 2010 belongs to Nancy Pelosi for many reasons. To find out why, read on…

Can you imagine a real life version of the Ground Hog Day movie where Mr. Pelosi must wake up every morning to a grotesque version of the Bride of Frankenstein? The cucumber eye covers, the makeupless face, the first Joker-like smile of the day, the realization that it doesn’t get much better than that first look? Oh, the horror!

Don’t you believe that Mr. Pelosi is one of the few men in the world who looks forward to his wife putting on a Halloween mask to improve her looks? Whatever Nancy chooses to wear, how can he lose?

Wouldn’t you guess that Mrs. Pelosi’s facelifts are a real downer for her husband? All of that crossing of fingers and holding the of the rabbit’s foot only to find out there really is no improvement. How much disappointment can one man stand? Even the Botox Hope Syndrome suffered by  Mr. Pelosi has lost its magical ability to provide a realistic chance for improvement.

Can’t you imagine how Nancy Pelosi would make a great Dr. Frankenstein? Close your eyes and just picture Mrs. Pelosi standing with that stupid gavel in her hand as she presides over the health care vote and just as it passes, she cold bloodedly shrieks out, “It’s alive! It’s alive!!” The monster arises only to find that it really can’t move for another four years. What a depressing movie all around.

In an unsuccessful sequel to the Frankenstein Monster movie, no amount of electric paddles and lightning could bring the Stimulus Monster to life. Not only has it shown no signs of life, it has somehow managed to kill all that it comes in contact with.

When the health care vote went late into the night and Nancy started her nightly metamorphous, it brought back a very vivid memory of the horror classic Night of the Living Dead. This scene was supported in a real way by the Congressional version of the Undertaker- none other than the one and only Harry “Dead Man Walking” Reid.

Time for some Halloween Joke Humor: What does the effect of a face lift on Nancy Pelosi and the Stimulus Bill have in common? Nothing.

No, really.  The effect they both have is nothing!

Yes, Halloween may be a time for bobbing apples and ghostly parties, but don’t forget the great contribution Nancy Pelosi has made to this very scary Halloween. One look at her and it is hard to forget! Boo!!!

On Revolution

The seeds of the revolution started out informally, as revolutions usually do. There was a sense that something had to be done. The government was not listening to the people, and cries of, “Taxation without representation” were becoming more and more common. Why, the people should be grateful for all that we do; after all, it is for them! Of course the mother government considered all of these meetings and defiant statements as acts of sedition- they would be put on lists and watched closely. Still, despite all efforts, the seeds of revolution continued to grow.

Finally, a shocking revolt took place in Boston which prompted renewed denials by those in charge that a real revolution was afoot and growing by the day. As the rabble became more organized there was a feeling that if they had just enough support from the common man that maybe, just maybe a rebirth of our country was possible. Pressure continued to build until new skirmishes across the east gave the rebels further reason to hope.

There were torn feelings as even within this group decisions had be made to stick with the establishment or forgo all loyalties to let the chips fall where they may-there was almost a feeling that things had gone too far to go back to the way things were. Still the ruling establishment hurled insults at those who would dare rebel and continued to heap unpopular legislation upon the people so as to make rebellion a foregone conclusion. How could there be reasoning with those who would not listen to reason and forsook the good of America in place of their own selfish desires?

There was a certain feeling that as the uprising grew with increased support that no matter what was done by the deaf ruling class that this was the right thing to do. History has a way of taking control of a situation so as to make the rebellion so many thought was impossible become a very real possibility.

Despite the fact that there was no one strong leader to spearhead the rebellion, there were enough spokesman so as to give voice to the movement. There was a feeling of safety among the numbers that continued to grow by the day. Tensions continued to build until the day for the reclaiming an America once thought long gone was upon them. Plans were made, new leadership would soon be adhered to and at last there was hope that government would once again be of the people, for the people and by the people.

What is this fateful day, you may ask? Is it April 19. 1776? No. It is November 2nd, 2010. The day of reckoning is fast approaching and the Tea Party continues to gain strength as Election Day nears. Those in charge continue to deny what is as plain as the nose on their face: change, real change, the change that most Americans support is growing by the day. Regardless of what happens Nov. 2, it will be an election where those who love this country will see the fruits of their labor to take this nation back from chaos and those who feel entitled. I have a strong belief that they will not all be disappointed with the results of all of their work. The Tea Party is real and that reality will soon hit home to everyone.
