The Ghosts of Christmas Past

Isn’t it funny how things just don’t go away with Obama? Like Ghosts of Christmas past, specters keep rearing their ugly head. He just can’t seem to say “Mission Accomplished” with any certainty on anything. It doesn’t seem to matter the issue, things just keep on keeping back on him like bad heart burn.

Take health care. This was supposed to be a done deal. Now with Republicans controlling the House and the whole constitutionality of it all being taken to court, debate is alive and well again. Who would’ve foreseen the GOP regaining the house a scant two years after Obama was elected? Who would’ve guessed Obama would be back on his legal heels fighting with all his might to defend health care? With this issue so unpopular with Americans it is no wonder nor an accident that it has cropped up to the forefront again. In the courts, two more liberal judges sided with Obama’s legal stance that the Commerce Clause allows for health care to be legal. But this was a very poorly presented case by the opposition and those prosecuting were few in number as to the plaintiffs. The Virginia verdict was much more professionally presented in a complete manner and the more conservative judge agreed with the Constitution and the many states in on this matter and said no to Obama Care. The Supreme Court could put the nail in the coffin of Obama by Nov. 2012. Without the mandate that all must have healthcare and buy insurance, the whole house of cards falls.

Next, take immigration at the border. This issue rings home whenever a border officer dies, when another person is kidnapped in Arizona and when violence flares up on the border on either side. There’s no end in sight and Obama clearly has no answers. Now he must answer for it all in court. The results have been mixed but Arizona is not out of it by any stretch of the imagination. There is no end in sight because once again Obama is walking in murky waters trying to do away with a law in Arizona that would help curb illegal immigrants from getting what they don’t deserve.

Even global warming is taking a cold turn for Obama. When the recent Cancun meeting to advance an agenda for it took place, it took place in record cold temperatures for the area. There was little agreement on anything which once again underscores the fact that politics and money have more to do with the issue than a real concern for the environment. More and more people are waking up and becoming skeptical of the whole issue. This is especially true as more people see the pressing needs that are really facing us and they are beginning to question the whole idea of the “dangers” of global warming. Here again the debate is not over but is just beginning again.

Finally, look at Guantanamo. The place Obama loves to hate but now must hate to love. There is little doubt as to the wisdom of Bush’s establishing a place for these extremist terrorists and Obama cannot do Bush one better at all. Now Congress has severely limited his ability to move terrorists out of Gitmo to other countries or anywhere else. There is also a lid on spending until he has a plan. Clue to the clueless: He will never have a plan. His idea of trying terrorists in the US has quickly unraveled and it is all looking like an old sock with many holes in it and strings just waiting to be pulled.

Yes, reality has once again come back to kick Obama in the butt and make him realize job is not done until it is done. That is why he must keep doing these do overs again and again. Is it any wonder why he must take so many vacations?

Unemployment

Almost everyone is thinking about it.  The problem is the ones not thinking about it are the President and Congress. Obama came into office saying creating jobs was "Job One." What he forgot to mention was that like most worthwhile things, he never finished his sentence and meant it was Job One Hundred. In his failure, the nation suffers. Instead, we get non-solution solutions like the failed stimulus package that was to fund “shovel-ready” jobs to go forward, only to find later Obama admits the Tooth Fairy is more realistic than a shovel-ready job is. We also get extensions that stave off reality- much like the failed foreclosure prevention program.

Republicans aren’t much better, as they offer no solutions but extending tax cuts that offer future promise. You can’t pay the bills today with promises of a better tomorrow. In this sense, I somewhat depart from conservatism as I see nothing wrong with the people who pay unemployment tax now drawing on their contributions and beyond. At least people collecting have worked to earn unemployment as opposed to many politicians who have never drawn an honest paycheck. Unemployment is not evil but it should also not be a path to workforce invisibility. However, a balance between liberal foolishness and conservative futuristic thinking is possible.

What we need is benevolence with purpose. This means that there must be an end to justify the means. One does not go to physical therapy without expecting permanent improvement- so in like manner should be unemployment compensation. If I were President I would cap unemployment benefits at two years but within those two years there would be a retraining process that would lead to a new viable job in today’s workforce. Whether this would involve schooling or a trade apprenticeship, a person collecting unemployment would have to choose a new job for which they would begin training and then complete their chosen training within the two years. Benefits would not start until training is chosen and taxes would not be levied on benefits but would instead be withheld and given as a lump sum bonus when a new job is kept for six months. Future unemployment help would be denied for a predetermined time.

Dignity and hope would then create a productive worker. We need to consider our workforce as an investment, rather than an expense.

To Be Fair...

Wouldn’t it be nice to be fair? Isn’t that what we all want as we go through life and meet its ebbs and flows, rights and wrongs, years of plenty and years of famine? At least that is what Janet Napolitano, our alleged Director of Homeland Security, would like. Just be fair.  When her Director of Intelligence (not assistant, or adviser, but director, mind you) was clueless about terror arrests that had been made in London HOURS earlier, she pleaded for us to be fair and realized that all who needed to know, knew. Hmmm. So the Director of Intelligence doesn’t need to know which begs the questions, what does he need to know and when does he need to know it?

Fast forward in reverse to Sept. 11, 2001. Pres. Bush is reading to an elementary class and first hears about the assault on the twin towers and the potential for it being a terrorist attack. He takes a few minutes to finish with the kids so as not to create panic and then proceeds to the task at hand. Yet for these few minutes, he has been ridiculed and put down as incompetent. Really? Hey, what happened to being fair? What happened the proposition that things are defensible and there is a chance to have a do over?

Or what about the proposition that George W. Bush was behind the twin towers coming down. Either this man is the greatest nefarious planner of all time or the whole idea is simply ludicrous on its own lack of merit. How fair are all of these charges against him on this matter? Now even Cindy Sheehan is aboard as a 9-11 Truther. That settles it for me. Her hatred of George Bush while he was in office got her nowhere and now she has found new way to regain the spotlight and continue that hatred. The sad part is that Pres. Bush was fair to her in light of her losing her son in Iraq- he met with her and she said she understood why he died and what it meant for the nation. Fair. Soon after, she is berating the President, demanding another meeting, and this time was not going to be so understanding. What would her son think of her? What would he think of her using him as a political wedge between herself and reality?

The truth is that there is no desire to be fair. The Obamites see the cup ¼ full and stress the heck out of this. There is no way to hold these people accountable; if this was a member of the Bush Administration not knowing, Harry Reid would be out front stating how this President was a loser and how this was just another example of the blatant incompetency of the Bush Administration. No understanding or being fair here. It happened time and time again and so Bush was not only dealing with Al-Qaeda but also the Harry Reids of the world who think nothing of being unfair.

Without accountability, there will be no responsibility taken by this group of jokers. Lose an election? Not my fault. Obviously the people are still angry from the Bush era. Economy down the tubes? Not my stimulus’ fault- just imagine how bad things would get if we didn’t pass it! How do you reason with people like this? There is no reasoning and that is why I have no fairness for people whose only goal in life is to excuse everything they do. Weren’t these guys the ones who were supposed to save us?

Obama's Abdiction

Okay, so what do you do if you’re the President attending a press conference about the important pending legislation over tax rates and unemployment benefits and you’re a half hour late for your next personal engagement? Do you:
  1. Bail and leave the man you hate in charge to bask in the limelight you so hate
  2. Man up and stay to show your concern for the issue
  3. Tell everyone they're in good hands and abruptly leave
  4. Stay as long as you can before you know you’re dead if you stay one minute longer

Obama, being the multi-tasker that he is chose A, B and D. Cut to the Cuban Missile Crisis:

Sec. of State: Mr. President we really need to get a plan of action going.
JFK: Yes that is why I’m glad my brother Bobby is here to help out.
Sec. of State: So what are we going to do?
JFK: Well, to tell you the truth I’m a half hour late for a meeting with Jackie so I’ll leave Bobby here to take over. Rest assured you’re in good hands.

Think that sounds crazy? Well just watch Obama’s press conference from Friday and you’ll see we now have a president who has evolved from using one president to now using another. Up to now we have heard Obama blame Bush for everything from the economy to why the weather is so cold. Pretty convenient way to avoid having to say that you’re an idiot with stupid ideas that have not a ghost of a chance of working.

Now we have seen the evolution of Pres. Obama into further abdication by calling on Pres. Clinton to step in for him. I am sure Pres. Clinton had to be dragged to that presidential podium and literally tied down to face the press. We all know how he hates the limelight. He must have hated this like Michael Moore hates one more piece of cheesecake. Now if we don’t get a deal on the Bush tax rates, he can now blame Clinton. This Obama guy is stupid like a fox.

My question is, when is this guy going to accept the responsibility of being President? At this point, we are dealing with such a dunderhead that I would even consider letting Clinton finish out his term and we can push the reset button in 2012-which will likely happen anyway. How bad do I want Obama out of office? Let me count the days.

The Meaning of Christmas

In this festive time of year, we often say, “Merry Christmas” to one another without truly giving it much thought, but let us take time now to think on it. Those who would take the “Christ” out of Christmas do so foolishly, for the fool has said in his heart there is no God. Instead, substitutions are made to fill the Void but this is like taking our President’s Day and saying it applies to any president serving in any country.

The whole purpose of Christmas is not that a child was born but to show that hope literally does spring eternal. Unlike evolution, which debases our humanity and leaves us hopeless, this Child shows us our imperfections and gives us means to once again attain perfection. Unlike atheists who spend every waking minute denying His existence, this Child says though you lack belief in Me, I believe in you- enough to come to you and even die for you.

We celebrate the Christmas season saying, “Merry Christmas” to celebrate this miracle birth, yet deny His creation of us. Those who deny the Creation week by mixing God’s creative ability with evolution make this miracle birth of no meaning in their lives. He created, He was born, He died for us, and He shall come again. That is the miracle of Christmas. What say we of the Second Coming when the earth is recreated? Will that also take billions of years or be done in “twinkling of an eye”? Instead, the deniers create their own make-believe world in which something comes of nothing, improvement is spontaneous, and we are no more than animals. Who is the real spinner of tales?

Our founding fathers knew the meaning of Christmas as they believed in a Creator and rightfully claimed the rights He endowed as inalienable. They asserted we are one nation under God. Sadly, we now want to make God to be under us. We banish Him from our schools, from our public activities, and ultimately from our lives. Are we the better for it?

We live in a world where our political leaders have forgotten Christmas as they believe we serve them. If they had the spirit of the season, they would not only claim to serve us when they run for reelection, they also not act as servants who are greater than their masters. We live in a world where leaders want to spend billions on global warming’s worse case impossible scenarios yet ignore the want that actually exists in this world. They wish their “science” to be beyond scrutiny but why fear if truth is on their side?

This Christmas I hope that we root out the Scrooges in our lives and seek goodwill for our fellow man for by embracing Christmas we can truly be merry. That we could look beyond ourselves and then we would seek out missions like the Salvation Army so they would not have to seek us out with their kettles. Would that we could take hold and hang onto Tiny Tim’s immortal words, “God bless us everyone” so that God truly can.

The Freaks

Let us make one thing perfectly clear: Julian Assange is a freak. This fact must be firmly established or what follows will not be understood or appreciated.

This Wikileaks founder has led a roller coaster ride all of his life that is now on a steep downward turn. He’s on the run all the time trying to dodge allegations of rape and he is facing a situation where the walls are closing in. He is, even as I write this, hiding out in England pursuing asylum in Switzerland. The British are not actively pursuing him but will apprehend him if he is seen in the public. His own conscience hounds him doggedly.

Assange is of course the force behind intelligence leaks vexing world leaders. He was never a “regular Joe” and this is true now more than ever. He rarely sleeps in the same place for more than a few days. He trusts few people and never answers his own cell phone-he has aides do it. For anyone new to meet him, they must go through a labyrinth of road blocks before actually seeing him. He maintains a bunker mentality much like Bin Laden.

Stranger still is that his life is full of oxymoronical ironies. A simple question that begs to be answered is whether anyone is their right mind would trust him with a secret. Is there anyone who would? He is so hard up for friends even PayPal won’t allow him to collect donations through their site any more.

Most ironic of all his contradictions is how he- a strong proponent of exposing secrets at any cost- is so anxious to keep his deeds and his whereabouts a secret. To expose him, to hunt him down, to bring him to justice, to show everyone his warts should be no less than he demands of the world.

In like manner, Rep. Charlie Rangel(D-NY) was convicted by a jury of his peers of tax evasion and ten other counts and after two years of this, all he gets is a public shaming and a slap on the wrist. Others would get cuffs. He is tax cheat and formerly served as ranking member on the committee that makes tax laws.  He broke laws that would land most people in jail yet still he wanders the halls of Congress without fear of real prosecution. Of those that know better, more should be expected.  Unless there is accountability, there will never be real change in the world today from the Rangels an the Assanges of this world.
